Has Sam Byram got a future at West Ham?
|
If this fella can sort out his never-ending injuries, has he got any chance of getting near the first team? I'd say the only possible position is at right wing back.
The problem is i just think he's too lightweight and too often injured.

What is it with our insistence to take a decent right winger and turn him into a below average wing back. I'm sure Thierry Henry would have ended up in goal if he'd come to us.

I can see why he was considered a prospect, but he's completely failed to improve on the player we first signed.
Seems to have the mindset "if I fuck up, I can always foul to get out of trouble", rather than "I won't make that mistake again".

As he's an Essex boy I'd love to have seen him succeed, but unfortunately he's a lightweight and just doesn't have the strength to compete with the powerful athletes that populate PL forward lines these days. Just gets brushed aside too easily and that's why he reverts to lunging into tackles which all too often result in bookings.

What others have said: hasn't got a future in the Prem. Unless something drastically changes in him. Gamble of a backup, at best.
He'd probably get booked reading this.

Looked quite promising when he arrived, played his best football for Leeds at right wing not right back. Picked up Injury to Hip in 2012 that was reported to need surgery (can't see he had it) and since then has had an injury plagued career. We need cover for both Zabaleta and Antonio however we need someone who can stay fit, so on that basis i'd let him go. We have cover for Antonio (Snodgrass) however if I was Snodgrass i'd be insisting on a public apology from Sullivan which I don't see happening so looks like we are going to need a right back and Right midfield player for next season unless of course we rush Antonio back

Agree with Keep Dreaming on Byram. In other words, simply not good enough

Byram is just another example of poor recruitment. Not really cheap, not really good, injury prone.

Too rash and too injured.
If he can sort those 2.things out we may have a player on out hands

He impressed at Leeds playing as a winger. Not sure why we've insisted on playing him as wing back or full back.

He's barely played because of these injuries. I find it hard to tell what level he's at. One for the coaches. If he stays then great - he's homegrown and it would be hard to find a replacement. If it's time for him to go, I think he should go for £6m+ in today's market. Not bad.

Doesn't want to be a winger but is less of a danger playing that position.
Maybe as a back up there?

Utter shite this lad. Can't fault his courage but zero judgement, unfortunately.

Has he got a future?
He hasn't even got a past!
High expectations, low reality I fear Hugill is going the same way. Bought for £10m never gets a game moves on for next to nothing having wasted a couple of years out of his career

Byram - No chance
Gets beaten too often, picks up bookings as a result of getting beat.
Not a PL player.

Im sure young Ben Johnson from the u23s is learning a lot from Zabaleta. whether any manager will give him a chance is a different matter but he's a decent young player

Jenkinson must be really dim if he thought the best way into the Arsenal team was to play shit for us.
But something is needed to explain the massive drop in performance between his first and second seasons.

I think injuries have really held him back, decent enough going forward, very rash when defending - unfortunately I don't think he's quite good enough - not a disaster signing though as think we would get most if not all of our money back for him.

A player with brains in his situation would be learning from Zabaleta.
Not the slightest sign of that happening.
Let him go and tear it up in a lower division again.
But only after we've replaced him - there's been too much "one out, none in" already.

Why the fuck Jenkinson didn't join us permanently when he had the chance, instead of going back to Arsenal's reserves, I'll never know.
